Barrington Jewels Gemstones - Emerald
Emerald is the most valuable member of the beryl family.  Emeralds were used by Nero as sunglasses to view the chariot races since it was believed to sooth the eyes.  The first known emerald mines were in southern Egypt.  The ancient Egyptians believed that emeralds stood for fertility and rebirth.  The world’s leading mines can be found in Columbia dating back before the sixteenth century.  The finest color in emerald is an intense medium-dark tone of green, blue green, or yellowish green.
