| Aquamarine is the
blue to greenish blue to bluish green variety of beryl. It is considered
to be the symbol of happiness and everlasting youth. The
name aquamarine came from a Latin word meaning “sea
water” due to its color which resembles the blue
of the sea. Aquamarine comes mainly from Brazil,
but can also be found in Madagascar. Aquamarine
is commonly heat treated to help eliminate the greenish
color; thereby, purifying the blue color. This treatment
is permanent and is considered an enhancement that is
stable and does not affect the durability. |
